Summer Stuff - Tomatoes and a Haircut

I finally got some tomatoes planted. I originally planned on doing a container garden but thought this might be easier - I hope.

This is what our little front garden looks like. It is always in the sun so tomatoes should thrive (right?) Our neighbor Ken doesn't use his box planter and invited me to plant things in it. I thought of flowers and then realized it would be a lot nicer to give Ken tomatoes throughout the summer too!

The "soil" on my side was not nutritious but it was aerated more than Ken's was. The people who lived here before us tried to plant strawberries with little luck. I don't think they added any dirt, though, so the clay that filled the box had little to offer any plants. Thankfully I consulted people at J&L Gardens on what to use and they pointed me in the right direction.

Now I just pray they survive and are fruitful. Black thumb or no black thumb, I will do my best to help those little tomato plants thrive!!!

This picture is of our rosebush on the front trellis. It is gorgeous right now - pretty much bloomed overnight.

ON to the haircut. Every summer Meg gets a shave. It is just too hot for an all-black dog with thick fuzzy fur to live comfortably in the Utah sun.

Now, Meg is very self-conscious. For roughly three weeks following her summer shave, she is extra shy and doesn't really enjoy going out in public. Who could blame her? When 1/3 of the hear she's got this hair:

Thick, lush, jet-black fur with a downy white bib under her chin. I'd give a lot to just have her healthy luster. I truly think her fur is her pride and joy.

Another thing to note, Meg has been, well, a little pudgy lately. (Don't tell her I said that!) I had hoped it was her fur making it difficult to feel her ribs beneath her skin. Now shaved, it is evident...

She's a chunker.

But a stretchy chunker...

And a rolly chunker.

I'll get photos of her wrinkles because she's a wrinkly chunker too.

I'm super jealous of your tomato plants! Meg looks so cute and funny shaved. I still think Claire wants to sport a matching look, though. :)
